In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Jan. 12, several organizations and individuals at Smith have joined together to contribute to relief efforts.

Global Action Against Poverty Everywhere founder and president Heather Stone '10 is chairing the Smith Haiti Relief Committee, composed of members from groups such as SGA, GAAPE, Smith African and Caribbean Students Association, the Newman Association, MassPIRG and other interested students. To a Smith student interested in studio art courses, senior Marguerite Davenport's experience from the first day of class might seem familiar.

Ileana Streinu, Charles N. Clark professor of computer science and mathematics at Smith College, recently received the David P. Robbins prize for her paper, "Pseudo-triangulations, Rigidity and Motion Planning." Published in Discrete and Computational Geometry in 2005, her paper solves the well-known "carpenter's rule problem. (February 4)
