Q. Why can't we post house parties on the Forum?
A. This is a Smith policy, not a Jolt one. We only enforce it. Consult the Student Handbook: "Posters, flyers or other forms of publicity for open house events may not extend beyond Smith campus boundaries. Under no circumstance may posters be placed in Northampton, in surrounding towns or announced on the radio or internet." In the past, parties that were advertised on the Jolt and were discovered to be advertised as such were shut down by ResLife and Public Safety.

Q. Why can't we post people's full names on the Forum?
A. This infringes on the almighty Forum Policy: "You may not post content which infringes the intellectual property, privacy or other rights of third parties."

Q. Why are people's partial IPs posted in the Forum?
A. The IP posting is in response to a severe troll problem a couple of years ago, and still enjoys majority support among our users. Rest assured that unless your full IP is posted, no harm can come to your computer. Additionally, no on-campus IP has only one user posting from it, so your privacy is maintained, but at the same time you must take more responsibility for your words. (This last bit is very important for avoiding problems with trolls.)

Q. Someone is harassing me on the Forum, what should I do?
A. If the other poster is violating the Forum Policy, e-mail us at smith@dailyjolt.com with the URL and an explanation of why you would like the post removed. If the poster is harassing you consistently, keep a record of all of the pertinent URLs as well as how they are a violation of Forum Policy, and e-mail them to forum@dailyjolt.com, where HQ can take appropriate action against the user, from warning to banning, depending upon the severity of their actions.

Q. There is a post on the Forum that I find objectionable. Who can I contact about it?
A. E-mail us at smithdj@dailyjolt.com with the URL of the post and why you think it should be removed. The Jolters will then decide whether or not it violates Forum Policy or should be removed.

Q. The same user or IP is always being abusive or inflammatory. What can I do?
A. E-mail HQ at forum@dailyjolt.com with a list of all the URLs of the posts that you think are trolling, and why you think action should be taken against the user. HQ will then decide how to handle the situation.
